“Teachers have 3 loves, love of learning, love of learners and the love of bringing the first two loves together”-Scott Hayden.
Students are greatly influenced by their learning environment and it benefits them intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically and also helps in fostering their overall development. Therefore, a teacher should be a continuous learner and should be enthusiastic and passionate about seeking better ways to impart knowledge. I strongly believe that a teacher who facilitates and inspires learning for students with innovative learning styles, who finds joy and challenge in exploring new paths, who is curious and keen in the pursuit of his/her knowledge, can inspire students to love learning and make it enjoyable.
As a teacher I think the teaching process is more than passing knowledge or asking questions. Teachers should be able to create curiosity in the minds of students. It is much more than dialogue delivery. Here is where I realized the importance of ‘Inquiry -based learning’. It transfers some authority from teachers to students and this engages students. My goal is to attain the ability to notice an opportunity and convert this into a worthwhile learning experience for my students and for myself. This process will create trust in my classroom and helps my students to explore and develop their ideas and learning.
This Inquiry project aims to set guidelines to explore and exploit the unique benefits of listening skills in language development of young learners and enable teachers to learn from each other. It also deals with the challenges in attaining listening competency, the benefits of effective listening and strategies to acquire the skill and overcome the challenges.
